Loonies and Toonies

While in Maine, we finally cracked open our guidebook for Canada.

Still, we had to hit the final Junior Ranger badge in the U.S. at St. Croix before crossing over. This might be the least-visited National Historic Site in the U.S. and possibly the most thorough ranger booklet grading. The rangers here don’t seem to have much to do. Still… nailed it.

We managed to cross the border into New Brunswick without too much incident. The border agent asked us quite a few pointed questions. I really have to wonder what kind of information they have on that screen in front of them after they scan our passports and the cameras shoot our vehicle plates. There’s some stuff there.

Regardless, our introduction to New Brunswick was awesome. It just so happened to be the holiday weekend to celebrate New Brunswick Day. We were clueless, but the locals were eager to show us a good time. Fireworks on our first night in Canada? Surely.

We had never even heard of Grand Manan Island until we read about it the night before. Sounded pretty good.

We drove right onto the ferry from Blacks Harbour with no reservations. It’s free in this direction. You only pay on the return. I think our total cost was $40 USD at the end. Totally worth it.
