Down to San Diego
After wrapping up our rental house issues and getting new tenants moved in, we busted a move south towards San Diego. Straight down the 5 over two days.
Since Ranger Badges combine a fun day out with something that resembles schoolwork, the first stop was at Cabrillo National Monument. A beautiful location, and we even got to see a guided missile destroyer exit the bay.
We’ve been wanting to come visit our friend Bree for quite a while, but San Diego was always a long way from wherever we were. Not this time.
We helped her get moved into her new place, and even had time for some domestic activities, like cooking in a real kitchen! Since she had a nice flat driveway, I figured it would be a good time to take a look at my exhaust that was starting to sound funny. I found the problem – a crack in the muffler. But, I found an even bigger problem: all three motor mounts were broken of the mustache bar. The muffler was holding up the engine – that’s why it cracked.
So, we would be here a while. More time for persimmon cookies.
I was able to get one broken bolt out with an ez-out. The other two mounts were completely stripped out and one mount cracked the case. Not good.
It took a few days to find some case-savers that would fit and a few more days to locate the proper drills and taps. While we were doing all this lingering in San Diego, I even managed to score a half-price new awning on eBay (and even had time to install it.) Our old tent awning was pretty flimsy. We now travel with shade.
With lots of bus (and house) projects complete, we’re now ready to roll again.
anything specific you need while you are here? Bode want to go to the range and shoot 22s? We have a Jr shoot this sat at south bay rod and gun. I still have my treasure troves of VW van parts. Rusty. 858-344-4397cell I have tons of tools and parts.
We’re all fixed up and have already moved on (and blogging late). Sorry we missed you!
