Adios, Canada

We headed west through Whistler – someplace I’ve always wanted to go. I was a little unimpressed. It was a fine place – it just seemed overbuilt, overpriced and crowded. I’m not sure a regular person could live here. The people live in Pemberton, maybe? We’ll have to try to give it another shot some winter.

We loved our last visit to Vancouver six years ago, but weren’t feeling a big-city stop was in order today. We just kept going across the border and ended up at Deception Pass State Park at met up with the MaliMish gang – Marlene, Dan, Luka, Mila and Ava – and our friends Kerri and Tim were there too.

The kids made beach forts and invented games to play. It’s nice to have road buddies.

Dan just so happened to have an invitation to go for a sail the next day and we were keen to glom on.

Somehow, we managed to cram 6 adults and 5 kids on a 21 footer and set sail for an afternoon on Saddlebag Island. Awesome folks and an incredible way to spend an afternoon. I might need a sailboat.

I look at used sailboats sometimes, they look quite like an affordable receptacle for broken dreams..

It is tempting though isn’t it?
