The McCarthy Return Trip
It finally came time to drop off Bob for a shuttle back to Anchorage. There are a few of these services around Alaska and this one happened to pick up in Gelenallen. Not exactly a destination, but a good place to get caught up on laundry, wifi, groceries, showers, Thai food and hair bluification. It also happens to be a major highway intersection and our Mali Mish buddies were passing through. They were debating the risks of towing the Airstream down the McCarthy road and we were debating a return trip to hike farther up the glacier.
McCarthy it was.
As luck would have it, we were socked in with a week of rain as soon as we arrived. It didn’t keep the kids from playing between the raindrops, catching grasshoppers and reading all day long. Since we had nowhere else to be, we would just wait out the weather window.
