Valdez

Okay- we are way behind on the blog. Catching up slowly. But, if you are interested in more current photos- check out our newish Instagram feed @bodeswell_vw or @malimish_airstream – friends we’ve been traveling with on and off for a couple months who are Instagram superstars.

From Whittier, we hopped on a ferry to Valdez with Bob. It was about a 5 hour ride, and we were lucky enough to see some whales in the distance. The scenery was fantastic, especially when we came upon some icebergs that had calved off a nearby glacier.

Valdez was an interesting town, pretty touristy – but to us that sometimes a good thing, offering services they certainly didn’t have in Hope or Whittier. Our campsite had a great firepit made from an old cement mixer. Every night, they fed the thing wooden pallets and everyone joined ’round.

Valdez is also where we got to briefly meet up with our friend, Moe. We met Moe in Seaside, Oregon 6 years ago. He works summers on Alaskan fishing boats – Deadliest Catch type of stuff. But the rest of the year, he’s surfing Oregon. See you down there, Moe!
