Midnight Sun

So here we were in Fairbanks for the Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year. I had really been looking forward to this. But for weeks the sun has still been up when we went to bed, and up no matter what time we awoke, middle of the night or not.  Last week, Jason got up and dressed and started making coffee before he realized it was only 4:30a.m.

There were fun runs and midnight baseball games we intended to attend. But, with kids, especially young ones, some things just aren’t going to happen. Still, we made it downtown to the Midnight Sun Festival (but mid-day).

Local Itidarod champions, Lance Mackey and Amp (the dog) were the celebrities of the event.

In the end, I was left alone waiting for midnight. Even Bode fell asleep. I took the midnight photo, but gave in before 1a.m. The sun rose again just before 3a.m.
