‘Ksan to Kitimat

Near the pioneer town of Hazelton, a Gitxsan village called ‘Ksan has been reconstructed. It features several totem poles as well as the tribes beautiful longhouses. Ceremonies are still performed here, and there is a four-year college program with emphasis on the cultures woodworking, carving and painting. A small museum displays artifacts and the gift shop sells some of the students works. It was a lovely day after many cold and rainy ones, so we lingered to enjoy weather.

Next stop was a long overdue visit with friends. Bode met Maya and Asher at a playground it Todos Santos, Baja about 5 years ago on our first trip South. They spend their winters in Mexico, getting away from the cold in northern B.C.

.Their parents Dave and Nicole were extremely cool and offered up the driveway of their rented house. We’ve stayed in touch since then, and we finally reunited last weekend. Hopefully, we’ll get to visit again on our way back down. Or maybe meet up again in Mexico.
