Stanley
Next stop, Stanley, ID.
Paul and Camille own a coffee stand here – Peaks and Perks – which is open June through mid-September. Then, they sell pumpkins in the SF Bay Area. Seriously, they sell pumpkins for a month. Then, they travel for 7 months a year. They returned last week from a winter in the Dominican Republic. They have this thing figured out.
As most things are before Memorial Day, Stanley was pretty much closed. But the seasonal workers were starting to arrive and we got to meet a bunch of the town characters.
Paul and Camille hooked us up with their good friends who have kids, so Bode was thrilled to have a video game partner. We camped for free outside of town, and then hit the Boatbox Hot Springs on the side of the road. How fun is a natural hot tub on the side of the road? Temperature is self-regulated with buckets of river water. We had planned to take turns, but the cold weather forced us all in at once.
Since you are in the neighborhood of it, you might have fun collecting rough Star Garnets. The methods have changed a lot since I was there years ago, but it’s still easy to do. Do a search for EMERALD CREEK GARNET AREA and look at the US Forest Service site.
