Turtles All The Way Down
We went on a visit to a turtle place. It’s called NOAA sea turtle labs (to see the website go to: http://www.galvestonlab.sefsc.noaa.gov/seaturtles/FAQ/ ).
This is a special fishing net that I got to try out. There is a metal grate at the end of the net. The fish go through the bars but the turtles don’t. The turtles slide up the grate and out a hole in the net.
This is a turtle in the turtle barn and the sign for the turtle barn.
There were little turtles shaped like Oreos and looked like Oreos (their shell was black and their regular skin was white). I think mom forgot to include those photos. I also think that a seagull would think that the Oreo turtle babies (seriously that should be their name but it’s not) were actual Oreos (with all the littering these days that’s possible).
Here are some ways to help turtles:
-don’t drive your cars on the beach because the tracks can trap baby turtles or run over them,
-don’t leave fishing lines in the water when your done fishing. Turtles can get trapped in fishing line
-and don’t kill turtles for their meat.
This is where they keep the turtles. The turtle sticking his head in a pipe has an infection where he gets gassy. He is doing that so it holds him down while the rest of his body floats up so the gas can escape through his butt.
Afterward… Two words: CANDY FACTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great write up Bode! Turtles are cool and I love candy 🙂
Very interesting and informative, Bode. Way to demonstrate the TED (Turtle Exclusion Device) by turning it into a BED (Bode Exclusion Device.) I’ve never actually seen one in action. These inventions, along with educating people about turtles will save lots of them. Thanks! P.S. What kind of turtles were in the tanks?
Good info Bode. Do you know the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ?
Nice shirt, B-man. 4th of July parade is coming soon. Wish you were here!
Great writing, Bode! Turtles are so cool –Who knew that turtles can get gassy?! Thanks for the write-up.
