Child Labor Laws

Bode’s told me on numerous occasions that he needs to earn money and we should move to Mexico so he can get a job.

We can keep that open as option too.

Otherwise, I spent the entire day researching destinations in the snow. All the suggestions we’ve been getting are awesome. I’ve never heard of some of these places and they all look amazing. But, I’m realizing that our choice will likely be guided by financial metrics just as much as snowy awesomeness. “Skiing” and “cheap” are not usually in the same sentence. Such is life.

Since I know an Olympic skier (seriously – it turns out I have some connections), I decided to ask her opinion.  It was a great response, so I thought I’d share:

I will give you top three in Canada and top three in the states (based on what I would want to do!!, in no particular order)

Canada: 1. Revelstoke: Small town, pretty quiet, not tons of night life, relatively far from any big cities, but amazing skiing. Personal favorite for skiing. 2. Whistler/Blackcomb: Tons going on, near Vancouver, great skiing, a little crazy with tourists, expensive 3.Nelson: Close to whitewater and red mountain resorts, hippyville, great snow, mellow people.

USA: 1. Jackson Hole: Haven’t actually been there, but have heard SO many great things 2. Mammoth, also a favorite, but can obviously get crazy with LA tourists. Slightly commercial but awesome skiing. 3. Whitefish, MT. What’s not to love about Montana? Red necks and ski bums unite! Wicked town, great hill slightly less touristy than most.

So I think those would be my picks. Not sure if that narrows it down, but if you happen to come up to western Canada, let us know and we will go for a rip!!!  Can’t wait to see some pictures of Bode shredding pow!

Good luck with the choice!

Since it’s been many years since I strapped on skis (& i was more into the “skinny skis” instead of the downhill due to limited funds & limited snow combined with a hill in Nashville, TN), my recommendation is from fond memories — Jackson Hole – but not so much for their downhill places (recall them as fun) but to hop aboard a snow coach (think of it as a smelly VW van on skis) & go into Yellowstone, esp. The Geyser Basin for at least a week. First time I did it, had to camp at 20 below as I couldn’t afford a room in the Snow Lodge but next time was toasty warm in the latter. Geyser Basin is alive with the 4 footed animals & not so many of the 2 footed ones…actually had times when I had Old Faithful to myself….and the steam is even more spectacular, dare I say, “magical”, in the winter.

Really should have this one a bucket list….btw, 20 below is not that bad as it’s a dry cold…just be sure to drink lots of liquids as it’s at altitude. I fudged a bit on the winter camping experience as I’d nurse a cup of hot chocolate at the bar before skiin off to my humble tent abode each night….
