The Blast Out
The bus is nearly stripped. Just a few windows to remove and that’s about it.
I’ve done most of the welding, except for… the new spots I found while power washing. The cargo area has some really big holes. Still gotta get under the windshield.
Some of the bodywork has been done, but there’s still plenty more to do.
It feels like I’m getting closer, but I just keep finding more to do.
At least, it’s finally clean.
all the hard work now, it will be only happiness tomorrow
Overall the floor doesn’t seem to be too shabby for the age of the van! Driving my first Kombi home I lost a full tool box through a hole in the floor (but that was in the days when Volkswagen still sold original floor panels for little money). 😀

I just got 72 westy about 30 days ago, and you look just like me, I started with undercarriage scraped everypiece of undercoating and mud out from everywhere about three full 5 gallon Pails worth than brought home the heated powerwasher from work , heat makes all the differance in the world!!! I saturated with a fantastic degreaser first made by “KROWN rust control ” Brute 23, amazing shit
After about 7 hrs of powers washing every nook and cranny, out came the sandblaster, super easy and awsome tool, 12 -40lb bags later it’s sparkles underneath and this exposed any and all damage to crossmembers and outriggers , I’m lucky my floor pan is great only one small hole in drivers foot area , but I have about 7 sections of support I bought from mid motor works to weld in
I’m just starting to prime the frame and undercarriage tommorrow with a good opoxy primer sealer to prevent rust damage from coming back ,
But all in all it’s awsome and I’m loving every minute of it
Just really wish I could have lifted body off the frame but I understand that’s it’s been welded in spots not just bolted so that saddens me lol
Anyways way cool to see you doing the same stuff keep it up and don’t skip the important stuff like proper prep !!!
We want these vehicles to last for our grandchildren!!!
