The Second Scoop

I’ve been working hard on the bus for a several days now and I’m realizing that the project is getting bigger each day that I get a closer look at it. There’s a huge amount of rust and a lot of work to do.

I just keep telling myself that this is how we’re getting to Europe and Africa. This bus is taking us there. If we don’t set the goal and work toward it… it won’t happen.

Here’s that other scoop. For some reason, this hole was cut twice as big as the other one. This side took all day too, but is now primed and looking pretty good.

Keep focused and working, do not fall into the same engineer OCD spiral which has kept my beetle off the road for 6 years, you can’t wait that long.

Rust proofing – put me in the “traps water and promotes rust” camp. Krown rustproofing totally works on my daily drivers (here in rust belt Canada) and I’ve been spraying it into crevices on my beetle as it goes together. It’s a light oil that creeps and displaces moisture. Unfortunately your nearest franchise seems to be in Ohio, perhaps you could mail order a few spray cans.

The PO was brilliant in making the other scoop bigger. It causes asymmetric air flow that counter acts the torque of the engine. More RPM = more air flow = counter acted torque, brilliant.
