…and on to Los Roques

We thought we’d swing to the other side of the travel spectrum (hammocks to luxury) so we flew out to Los Roques, an unbelievably stunning archipelago 80 miles offshore from Caracas. One of the beauties of my mom visiting is that we have the opportunity to live a bit more stylishly than we would normally.

We’d seen postcard-worthy photos of the place and figured they were Photoshopped. Nope, the waters really are this color and the the best view was from our small commuter plane. The only thing worrisome was when I looked up at the pilot and he was reading a newspaper.

Our posada was a bit of a disappointment, but we decided to check out the town and make the most of it. It was already late afternoon, and there wasn’t much going on. Everyone leaves the inhabited Gran Roques for the surrounding islands each day.  We were able to find a beach bar and kick back a mojito or two before sundown.
