Carnaval. Practice.
We got a tip that Banda de Ipanema was going to be rehearsing for Carnaval in the streets of Ipanema. We weren’t sure what to expect but figured it would be fun.
We certainly were surprised when thousands of people lined the beach avenue for mini-parade. We were there early, so had a good spot, but it didn’t take long for the crowds to push their way in front of us. We gave Bode the camera and from atop Jason’s shoulders he was able to capture some of the action. It was only the 1 band, but hundreds of revelers walking the route (complete with police escorts in front and back and clean up crew at the end). A true taste of Carnaval in two weeks. We won’t be able to stay in Rio for the big event, but luckily Brazilians celebrate Carnaval in most towns.
We had so much fun at the parade that we decided to head to Osorno plaza to try to catch it again at the end of the parade route. But a short while later the sky let loose with a torrential storm, so we headed to one of our favorite restaurants for trout instead.
Nice work Bode! Made it seem like I was there with you.
They’re all great photos, but that last one is just so romantic.
