El Gauchito
Day 2 in Ibera consisted of a day in the countryside. Basically, it was a horseback ride through a local gaucho‘s land and the land of his relatives. Just a little taste of their daily life. One without cars or electricity. Here, they raised cattle and sheep, but there were also burrowing owls and ostriches along our trail. And, the biggest ant hills we’ve ever seen. We rode to the gaucho‘s mother’s house, about an hour and a half by slow horse for a mate break. They showed us how to use the wool spinner and loom, and the blankets and shawls they had made for friends.
When your house is built for you, you can have doors that are only 4 feet tall.
At the end of the day, we went back to the lodge and watched a massive thunderstorm roll in. Bode loved it.
