Highly Recommended

Guest post from my mom:

Club del Rio was an ideal spot; a beach, playground, and activities. The activity the adults were most interested in was enjoying a glass of wine while watching the sun set across the river, behind Paraguay.

Bode spread his army men on the beach and built sand forts. He didn’t have a boat, so he used his Crocs as a battleship. Truly unsinkable.

I tried to interest him in archery, but the only thing he had his eye on was the zip line. We were a little concerned about safety—it went over water—but the two instructors were strong and athletic looking, so what could go wrong?

Bode wasn’t the least bit nervous. He scampered after the instructor without a moment’s hesitation and was soon zipping off the second story of an abandoned building. “It was awesome,” he declare, and was off for his second run.

“You’ve got to try it, Grammy. I highly recommend it.”

Who am I to disagree with advice like that? Off I went with a man who’s lack of English made following instructions somewhat iffy. Angela had warned me that I would have to climb a ladder. I just gave her a dirty look. I am perfectly capable of climbing a ladder.

This was not a ladder. This was something convicts cobbled together to escape from prison. Up I went, and within minutes I was zipping along. Wow, Bode was right. It was awesome. And I got to do it a second time.

If Bode highly recommends something to you, I advise you to pay attention. The kid knows what he’s talking about.

I’ve been following your great adventure for a couple of years, and I agree with a previous commenter about the great photos. But I wanted to add my appreciation for the very high quality of the writing in each day’s posting! Both Jason & Angela (and now Mom, too) make each day a new adventure, even when you’re just stuck somewhere hunting up mechanical parts. I’d look forward to each new entry even if there were no photos (no, don’t stop!) Many thanks and keep rolling!

Tom and others – many thanks! it’s great to hear from ‘new’ readers. Some days it’s tough to keep rolling, and every bit of encouragement helps!

Great post Susan. I’m so glad you had a good time and this will be something for you to write about in one of your manuscripts.

I agree with Tom in Nebraska. I’m one of your 1,109 Facebook lurkers as well. I love popping in for a little blogging adventure. I catch up every month or so, and love reading your posts, if only you knew how many times I’ve been concerned for your safety and then cracked up laughing at some misadventure. The two of you (and assorted family) seem awesome Bode seems to be confident and self assured. Something everyone can look to emulate in their own adventures. I suspect many others do the same. THANKS SO MUCH for sharing your adventures, it’s truly a blast.
