Cachi
We took the scenic drive out of Salta, which meant dirt roads and more steep climbs back up into the mountains. But that was okay – the landscape was beautiful and the bus had been loaded up with spares.
The destination was Cachi. Another one of those quaint little desert towns without much to do and that suited us just fine. Shady plaza with a playground, sidewalk cafes, and everything made from adobe and cactus wood.
We were the only ones at our camp site and that was pretty nice as well. It had a good climbing tree and a playground, hot showers, our own ‘private’ hedged camp area and even electricity. Four blocks from the main plaza and only 5 bucks a night. There’s even an Olympic-sized pool open in the summer. Camping in Argentina is relatively posh compared to just about every other country we’ve visited.
We seemed to be on the route home from school for all the local kids, so Bode could continue trying to teach the kids English. It’s surprising how many hours a day he speaks English to Castillano-speakers (they’ve changed the language on us here in Argentina). He seems to understand everything that’s said to him in Spanish, but so far he’s still stubbornly sticking with responding in the native tongue. He’ll eventually get there – us too.
There’s a hint of Karma in that doggie.
Also, those cacti look like they’re giving me the finger.
omg – i was thinking the EXACT same 2 things as jen-mo.
What’s with the photo of the German Shepard dog? Must be a story there.
