Northern Chile
No, we’re still in Peru. Northern Peru. Very northern Peru. These countries are impossibly long and, well, we’re debating the need to rush south when winter is approaching and it will be cold soon. Summer is ending and everyone is at the beach.
Mancora seems to be the summer vacation capitol of Peru, but all the partiers are from Chile. It’s a nice enough town, but there is no real grocery store and the only gas station is way out of town and only open occasionally.
You can rent a horse, surf, take ‘kiteshitting’ lessons (daily! with free air!), even get waffles. It’s a nice change, but with thousands of visitors in this tiny town, it’s almost too much.
The real attraction here is the surf, and that’s why everyone is here. Looks good. Looks easy. We’re feeling too tired to grab a board, though. We were up all night swatting mosquitoes.
It’s going to be hard rushing Peru. It’s such an surprisingly amazing country. You haven’t even gotten to Lima yet! If you want proper grocery stores that’s the place to be. Try Vivanda, Peru’s version of Whole Foods. It’s like a little slice of a not so little priced heaven.
