Google IS Evil

I got a notice from Google the other day that our Google Ads had been deactivated due to some sort of malicious activity.  We’ve managed to make a few bucks from the ads, so I was a little concerned (and they hadn’t payed us yet.) It wasn’t a huge amount, but we were actually counting on this extra cash to cover some of our trip expenses.

They won’t tell us what we’re being blamed for – it’s supposedly all proprietary. As far as I know, we’re not doing anything malicious – unless logging on from a different location every day just blows their mind. So, I did the only thing I could possibly do. I filled out an online form to appeal their automated “decision.”

The next day, I got an automated response:

After thoroughly reviewing your account data and taking your feedback into consideration, we’ve re-confirmed that your account poses a significant risk to our advertisers. For this reason, we’re unable to reinstate your account. Thank you for your understanding.

They thoroughly reviewed our account? We’re a risk to Google? Their advertisers? They keep all the money we supposedly earned for putting their silly ads in front of our readers? We have no ability to do anything about it? Thanks for understanding?

You suck, Google.

I like the bit about “your account poses a significant risk to our advertisers”. I’m not sure if you see the same ads that I do but they mostly are those obnoxious weight loss ads. Good riddance.

Google always wanted me to “Meet scuba diving singles!” Little did they know I was a huge risk.

Sooner or later there will be a class-action suit. Sign us up!

    Yo Jason…
Sorry to hear about the dent in your revenue stream, but who needs ’em, eh? Though I must say the ‘Stop the Obama Care’ and the Sarah Palin (!), ads were really getting to me.
How in the heck do ya think that they connected those two ads to you folks. Maybe it was all those posts from Texas that clued then in?

Ok, in other news…a Mexicano gent that I work with up here in Portland, says that you folks have to check out the town of Barra De Navidad…says it was one of his favorite vacation spots when he lived in P.V.
    Here’s a link to some info…..http://www.barradenavidad.com/barra/English/Main.html

    Hi Jason,

I met your family in Lake Havasu at BBB. You may remember. My daughter and I were in the silver VW Syncro Vanagon with the canoe camped near you. Anyway, I have really enjoyed your posts on bodeswell.com. My wife thinks I am addicted! Basically, I am on a fabulous VW adventure vicariously through you. What an awesome trip. I decided that it is time to “pay to play” and I just sent $33.33 to your paypal. It isn’t much, but I hope it goes a fair distance south of the border. Thanks again for the glimpses into your families adventure. Be safe! Let me know if you pass through Las Vegas. I will buy dinner.

    Take care!

Maybe the risk to their advitisors was everyone clicking on ads several times for only a second or two. What did they expect with all the weight loss ads? Just go out to dinner once a month on my credit card (someplace cheap-remember they add a charge to convert to US funds) and it will amount to the same thing and I won’t have to look at those stupid ads about the lady with the fat belly.

Also, call your brother and get him to write a letter to Google. He’s very good at that sort of thing.

Hey there fellow travelers. The same Google Ads thing happened to us when we bought in about $70 in a month. Those bastards cut us off and didn’t even pay what we had earned! Mind you, we did go from 1 ad click in 3 months to hundreds in a week.
    Keep safe out there.

Those bastards! I was clicking on ads and actually found some of them quite interesting but having heard how they treated y’all am going to boycott them entirely. No more GOogle ads!!! Maybe we should start a movement to get everyone boycotting until they pay up!! On a lighter note we are LOVING your blog – so thanks for letting us travel along with you via the internet! Cheers! Nicole, Dave, Maya, and Asher. P.S. I am with mom, if your brother can put the screws to them, then a letter from him is just what they need… and then can I borrow him?? :O)

P.P.S. I met one of those “Scuba Diving Singles” – turns out he was a snorkeler and he wasn’t even hot. So there.
